Wahluke Slope

Located within the Columbia Valley AVA, Wahluke Slope was granted AVA status in January 2006. The name "Wahluke" is a Native American term meaning "watering place." The appellation holds 81,000 acres of land, 5,200 of which bears vines, and is responsible for nearly 20% of Washington's grape production. Wahluke Slope is located 60 miles north of Richland. The area borders the Columbia River to the west and south, the Saddle Mountains to the north and the Hanford Reach National Monument to the east.
