Located 85 miles northwest of New York City, the Hudson River Valley recorded its first commercial vintage in 1829. The region is too harsh for most Vinifera, meaning French hybrids and Labrusca varieties dominate the vineyards. Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc are slowly making their reappearance here, as they are quite tolerant of the cold weather.
