The Italian synonym for the great Pinot Noir varietal. Found mainly in the northern reaches of the peninsula, Pinot Nero is usually light and fruity, perhaps closer to a rosé than a red, but rarely in the more powerful and ethereal forms found further to the northwest in Burgundy.
