“R” appellations

Rattlesnake Hills

The 68,500 acre Rattlesnake Hills region lies within Columbia Valley and its sub-appellation, Yakima Valley. It stretches from Union Gap, just south of Yakima, to north of Sunnyside about 45 miles to the east. The AVA is named after the Rattlesnake Hills, which can be found within the AVA but also extend farther east of the AVA. The region is known for its silty loam soils that retain moisture quite well, and also receives warmer temperatures than the rest of Yakima Valley.
