Located to the north of Sonoma and Napa counties, Clear Lake is named after the large, freshwater lake of the same name resting in the middle of Lake County. But the Clear Lake AVA may be known more as the birthplace of wine mogul Kendall Jackson, whose headquarters can now be found in Lakeport. The large lake moderates the temperatures, which are noticeably cooler than the surrounding appellations. Bordeaux varietals are commonly found in the Clear Lake vineyards, which are known for producing outstanding Sauvignon Blanc.
