Located in the northeast corner of the Russian River Valley AVA, Chalk Hill derives its name from its chalky volcanic soil. Fog creeps into the lower recesses of Chalk Hill, leaving the majority of the valley warmer in its cover-free environment. White varietals tend to fare better in the terroir, with Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay producing great results with notes of chalk, while the upper hills are producing great Cabernet Sauvignon.
