“L” appellations

Los Alamos

Literally translated from Spanish as "The Cottonwoods," this area is located around the town Los Alamos in Santa Barbara County. While still awaiting official AVA status, winegrowers in the area recognize it as its own appellation because it is 10°F cooler than Santa Ynez Valley to the south and 10°F warmer than Santa Maria Valley to the north-east. Until this AVA is officially accepted, wines from this area will be labeled as being from Santa Barbara County.
