An Italian varietal known for producing both dry and sweet versions of the DOCG Sagrantino di Montefalco in the region of Umbria in central Italy. The sweet versions are produced from dried grapes, but the dry versions may wind up being the more famous. Dry versions of Sagrantino can have fresh blackberry and tobacco flavors and aromas with firm tannins and some acidity. Sometimes blended with Sangiovese to produce the wine Rosso di Montefalco.
