Eduardo Seghesio they purchased a 56-acre ranch in Alexander Valley in 1895 and immediately began planting Zinfandel vines. After the winery was constructed in 1902, Eduardo left his job and founded Seghesio Family Vineyards. They produced jug wine until World War II and made wine for other wineries 1983, when they began producing wine under their own label.
Around 1994, Seghesio shifted from producing mass quantities of wine to making small batches of high quality wine. They immediately began dropping clusters from the vines and downshifted production from 120,000 cases to 35,000 cases annually. Today, they are renowned for their Zinfandel, and make delicious Italian varietals, including Arneis, Barbera, Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese and one stellar SuperTuscan called Omaggio.
Seghesio was the Winegeeks.com Producer of the Month in September, 2005.
