“A” appellations

Amador County

Amador County was populated in the mid-1850s by European immigrants trekking across the United States to California in search of gold. They planted Zinfandel vines as soon as they arrived and today 150 year old vines are still producing heavenly jammy grapes. While Zinfandel is the county's primary grape, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sangiovese and Syrah are also planted in Amador's iron-rich soil. Amador County rests within the Sierra Foothills AVA and contains two sub-appellations: Shenandoah Valley and Fiddletown.
