Impressive claret !
This prime form 1993 defined cellaring potential and reiterated that Cru Bourgeois's glories in the 90's.
The aged but still charming Haut Medoc displays ripe black fruit, cinnamon, intergrated with mellow and nuanced oak. Soft and round tannis follow by hints of sweet aftertaste. Well balanced.
Drink 2014-2019

Bright, red cherry fruit and nicely integrated with knitted tannis, this is too young to drink freely now but has a good future. Drink 2015-2025

The palate has ripe dark berry flavours complemented by subtle oak and balanced acid.
Great value.

bckl reviewed Leroy Beaujolais-Villages Primeur 2012 on June 22, 2014

Beaujolais is an important wine region of eastern France, fruity red wine made from Gamay. It is located south of Burgundy. There are several forms of red Beaujolais wines: Standard Beaujolais (including Beaujolais Superieur), Beaujolais Villages and the youthful Beaujolais Nouveau.
Super fresh wine: Lush cherry nose. Fresh red fruits on palate, suave, balanced and refreshing.
Drink now to 2016.

bckl reviewed Lagrave-Martillac Pessac Léognan 2007 on June 11, 2011

Second wine of Latour-Martillac blanc. Made from young vines of Semillon & Sauvignon with same vinification & ageing process as Latour-Martillac.
Arresting nose: Fresh peach fruit, melon, and notes of honey & nuts. The palate has a core of mineral, and while the acidity is crisp, the overall appeal is savoury and lean. Big surprise!

bckl reviewed Pavillon de Poyferre Saint-Julien 2005 on June 11, 2011

Third wine of Leoville-Poyferre. The wine is produced from young vines of the estate with 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 8% Petit Vendot & 2% Cabernet Franc.
Red & black fruit complemented by savoury, discreet oak. It reveals character of Saint Julien such as rich, currant fruit & powerful. Although the wine is less depth & concentrated, however, only ¼ price of the first wine, what can you say?

Sicily now produces some interesting wines from a combination of classic & indigenous grape varieties.
Tasca d’Almerita is one of Sicily’s leading wineries. Although it is not the estate’s signature white (Nozze d’Oro), this blend of Inzolia, Catarratto & Grecanico, with creamy texture & racy acidity, is refreshing & tasteful.
Clear, pale straw color. Notes of floral & peaches with Jasmine aftertaste. Drink now.

The aged Chardonnay is in golden colour. It displays melon & pineapple notes with mineral & creamy texture. There’s a core of honey, popcorn, highlighted by nutty palate. Gentle acidity & toast aftertaste. Well balanced.

bckl reviewed Chateau Carbonnieux Pessac Léognan 2006 on November 16, 2010

Despite of Haut- Brion (rare & expensive), my preferences of Pessac-Leognan White are Pape Clement, Domaine de Chevalier, Smith-Haut-Lafitte & Carbonnieux.

This one of the finest Bordeaux dry white wine is in bright, light yellow color. Displays honey & floral notes. Crisp acidity, as usual combined with mineral, citrus & honeydew melon. Polished smooth and creamy texture leads to an extreme balanced finish, delicious. The wine is still young. It will further develop under good condition of cellaring. Now to 2016.

The Zapris family arrived in Australia with a strong family tradition of winemaking from Greece almost 55 years ago. The 2nd generation of the family, John Zapris established Sir Paz Estate in the Yarra Valley in 1997.

Having matured for 18 months in French oak barriques, the wine was ripe and dense, with depth flavors of cedar, lavender, black currant & plum, jammy & spicy. Full bodied, with velvety tannins and balanced finish. A judicious choice to rich beef casseroles. Drink now through 2014.

Jumilla is a municipality in southeastern Spain. It is located in the province of Murcia, close to the town of Yecla, and is a Spanish Denominacion de Origen (DO) for wines.
The wine is blended with Monastrell, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and small percentage of Merlot & Petit Verdot . Monastrell (Mourvedre) is native to Spain, where it is second only to Grenache (Garnacha) in importance.
Dark ruby colored. Displays loads of herbs, dried apricot & raisin. A beautiful core of ripe fruit such as black currant, plum, and forest floor lead to a full body, with fine tannins and a sweetly finish. Long & polished. The wine needs to breathe 15-20 minutes before serve. A great value from Jumilla, drink now to 2012.

Robert Skalli is the man who really works with enthusiasm, and great believer in quality. His Reserve Chardonnay was one of the best selling white wine in my cellar.

bckl reviewed Pigmentum Cahors 2005 on June 15, 2010

Cahors situated in Southwest of France. It awarded AOC status in 1971. The dominant grape variety in Cahors wines is Malbec, which must make up a minimum of 70% of the wine. It is supplemented by up to 30% Merlot and Tannat. Because of the color, Cahors wine is known as “Black Wine”.
Intense dark purple color. The nose echoes the fruit color – black cherry complemented with some spiciness. The alcoholic strength leans on the high side. Light-weight palate of fruit. Probably past.

This wine is blended with Cabernet Sauvignon/ Merlot and using a technique known as “saignee”. Bleeding vats of red wine at an early stage, when the juice has just begun to color, that pink juice is removed can be fermented separately to produce rose.
Mature pink. Vanilla, toast, maltose & honey notes. Minerality with strawberry hints. Silky texture & well balanced. Medium bodied. Drink now.

Until now I can still remember the taste of Mas La Plana 2003. Torres is one of my favor winery in Spain. Tempranillo is the main grape used in Rioja & "Crianza" is a wine aged for at least one year in oak. In Rioja, the 2006 vintage was cooler than the riper 2005 and 2004 vintage, and many wineries took advantage to produce wine with bright, fresh character. This wine is in bright purple red color. It performs stainless steel, light earthy & spicy notes at the beginning. Having opened for 30 minutes, it was full mouth of ripe and fresh fruit. Balance and lively, with luscious Black berry and black cherry fruit supported by underlying tannins and gentle acidity. Peel of citrus fruit, plum and red bean shines through the finish. A fine companion for food. Drink now - 2012.

bckl
